How do I get to Dubrovnik?
Dubrovnik is easy to come to whether by a car, bus, or plane. Flying to it is possible from several bigger cities around Europe, but there are also some good flight options from the USA!
The direct flights are offered by Delta Airlines and United Airlines, they fly overnight and last for approximately 9 hours.
This is good news for all of us ready to pack our bags and head for an adventure!
However, if you would like to avoid getting stuck in a quarantine make sure to follow entry regulations. As of the day this article was posted, this means that to enter the country you will have to present one of the following:
- Negative PCR test
- A negative rapid antigen test
- Vaccination certificate
- Proof of past Infection
Where to stay
Dubrovnik is famous for its luxurious hotels such as Hotel Dubrovnik Palace and Hotel Bellevue Dubrovnik. With great locations, interiors, services, and features, these hotels would bring your overall experience to a whole new level. However, they are quite pricey and ask for a little extra digging into your pockets.
If you don’t need super-fancy hotel amenities, I would recommend renting an apartment instead. They are more affordable, but still offer great comfort and privacy, good locations, and beautiful views. Check for options on www.booking.com or airbnb.com.
What to do
The first thing to do when you visit Dubrovnik is to take a walk on the Stradun. It is the main street located at the very heart of the old town. Surrounded by beautiful churches, museums, shops, restaurants, and diverse street performers, Stradun is the best place to start your adventure. If possible, try visiting it during the late afternoon hours. That is when the temperature is lower so the sightseeing is way more enjoyable.
While staying in Dubrovnik make sure to get some quality time in the sun!
Your second day is a perfect time to book a boat trip to the local island Lokrum. This tiny little island located only 600 meters from Dubrovnik is home to beautiful beaches, a Botanic garden, and a romantic church. It is also one of the many filming locations for Game of Thrones and has free entry to the museum devoted to the filming of it.
Afterwards, to keep your tummies full and taste buds happy, sit down at a Portun or Lucin Kantun and enjoy delicious Croatian cuisine.
Day 3 is time to get your dose of cultural experience!
Visit Rector’s Palace, Red History Museum, or Museum of Croatian War of Independence. Here you’ll see interesting exhibitions and learn about the history of Dubrovnik and Croatia. If you are interested, I would also recommend you to visit some of the churches in Dubrovnik, especially the Franciscan Church and Monastery or the Church of Saint Blaise.
