Border closure to non-essential travel will continue for US and Canada

For those wanting to make their way across the borders of Canada and the United States will have to wait a bit more.
Both the US and Canada have agreed to extend the closure of their borders to non-essential travel to June 21. This comes as many countries have began opening for domestic travel.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Tuesday the border is a “source of vulnerability” and this extension would take place for another 30 days. He also said, “This will keep people in both of our countries safe.”

“We’re working closely with the provinces to ensure that arrival of people into Canada — even now, but certainly once we get to a point where non-essential travel picks up again in the coming months, I guess — we need to have strong measures in place.”

President Trump confirmed the extension in a White House briefing saying, “As things clean up in terms of the ’plague,’ we’re both going to want to do the normal — we want to get back, everything we want to get back to normal.”

“We’re very confident that we’re going to have a tremendous, tremendous turnaround. We had to turn it off artificially, and now we’re turning it back on, and you’re going to see some tremendous numbers.”

Canadians and Americans who are turning to their respective countries are exempt from the border closure.
The US has the highest reported number of COVID-19 cases with 1.5 million.
