Global Entry enrollment is now open for interviews starting September 8, 2020. Applicants will be able to begin interviews resuming the process that has been on paused since March because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Customs and Border Protection said Friday it will reopen most Trusted Traveler enrollment centers in the United States after the Labor Day weekend. They had been closed since March 19 as air travel slowed to a trickle.
Applicants will encounter reduced or staggered appointments, limited seating, frequent disinfection, plexiglass barriers or face shields, and social distancing measures will be highly encouraged.
Because the Canadian and Mexican borders remain closed to nonessential travel, enrollment for the NEXUS and FAST programs remain suspended. Both programs ordinarily would grant applicants expedited crossing at the northern and southern borders.
Global Entry allows an expedited reentry process for U.S. travelers returning from overseas. It meets the Department of Homeland Security’s REAL ID requirements, which were supposed to take effect on Oct. 1, but have been postponed a year due to the pandemic.
Global Entry enables U.S. travelers to take advantage of kiosks at major airports nationwide and globally that allow them to bypass lines with no paperwork and reduced wait times.
